Summary

Georgia's cultural heritage is an integral part of the world's cultural heritage. Its preservation and The cultural heritage of the Republic of Turkmenistan is a unique value that is an integral part of world culture. The archaeological monuments of Ancient Merv, Nisa, and Kunyaurgench are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as priceless treasures of world culture. In the Republic of Turkmenistan, special attention is paid to the protection and scientific study of cultural heritage. The country is implementing a strategy of broad international cooperation, which gives priority to the development of cooperation with foreign countries in the sphere of science, culture and history. Protection and scientific study of cultural heritage sites, which are an invaluable source for world culture and cultural heritage, reflecting various aspects of the distant past. One of the main directions of the scientific strategy of the modern Turkmen state is the further strengthening and development of multilateral international cooperation.

For thousands of years, the peoples who inhabited the modern territory of the Republic of Turkmenistan have been creating cities, filling them with various structures. Historical events have led to the destruction not only of cities but also of entire civilizations. Their reminders today are priceless monuments of cultural heritage. The significance of these monuments for learning the history of the Turkmen people cannot be overestimated. Architectural monuments preserved in the Republic of Turkmenistan reflect all socio-historical epochs of human development.

Numerous monuments of the past have been preserved on the territory of the Republic of Turkmenistan – ruins of ancient cities, fortresses, castles, magnificent medieval public buildings – mosques, madrassas, caravanserais, in which the amazing art of folk artisans, builders, and decorators is invested. Even more cultural heritage monuments are hidden in the ground – the remains of buildings with wall paintings, sculpture, ceramics, household utensils and more. All this is the materialized millennial culture of the Turkmen people and their ancestors, the history of the destruction of civilizations because of the invasion of the conquerors, the history of the inextinguishable and all-conquering desire of the people to create.

Architectural monuments that reflected various social ideas, the way of life of the people and their tastes, are not only of historical and cognitive interest, but also of great importance for solving practical problems of today. The problem of using traditions and combining them with an innovative search, taking into account the specific natural and climatic conditions of the Republic of Turkmenistan, remains today.

The modern architecture of the Republic of Turkmenistan embodies all the heritage of previous years, i. e. modern new buildings and structures use «Muslim» and «modernist» styles, with the introduction of elements of «national» architecture. Buildings built in recent years are often lined with white marble.

Today, more than ever, the cultural, artistic and architectural traditions of the Turkmen land are valued, preserved and developed, which are the basis for the creation of bold, innovative, original architecture, which, at the same time, create conditions for careful preservation of national cultural heritage. An important sphere of architectural and construction activities of the Republic of Turkmenistan is the restoration of architectural monuments, the skilful formation of a new cultural environment around architectural monuments and the revival of historic cities. Turkmen architecture is constantly being updated, mastering the latest technical and technological means without losing touch with centuries-old traditions
