The purpose of the article is to highlight the life path and creative contribution to the formation and development of the domestic animal husbandry in Ukrainian SSR in the 30s-70s of the last century, the spread of higher zootechnical education and sectoral research work of the Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Academician of the P. D. Pshenychnyi. Research methods are general scientific (analysis, synthesis, classification), special historical (problematic-chronological, comparativehistorical), biographical and source studies. The achievements of P. D. Pshenychnyi as the head of the department of farm animal feeding of the Kyiv Zootechnical Experimental Station have summarized.

The role in the formation of the chairs of farm animal feeding of the Kharkiv Zootechnical Institute and the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy, preparation of educational and methodical literature for students of agricultural higher education institutions has highlighted. P. D. Pshenichnyi founded the Kyiv Scientific and Educational Center for Animal Feeding and Fodder Technology, trained 130 candidates and doctors of agricultural sciences. The program of its activities and creative achievements, the role of some scientific developments at the current stage of animal husbandry development are revealed

The creative heritage of the scientist, his scientific approaches to the development of the basics of rational feeding of farm animals and efficient fodder production in Ukraine have systematized. The priority of P. D. Pshenichnyi in the substantiation of the principles and methods of directed breeding and stimulation of the development of the function of nutrition and metabolism in young animals, methods of increasing the coefficient of useful effect of feed, studying the age-related variability of economically useful traits under the influence of different levels of feeding has proven. It is shown that these developments were fundamental in elucidating the patterns of formation of productivity of agricultural animals in ontogenesis.
