The main historical milestones of the establishment and development of research on agrarian economy in the Kirovohrad region were studied.

The purpose of the research is to determine the main stages and aspects of the development of scientific research on agrarian economy in the Kirovohrad region from 1956 to 2022.

A set of methods and techniques was used as a generalization of research results based on the analysis of scientific reports and publications, as well as synthesis, comparison, and additional study of the available historiography of this issue. It was established that in the period from 1956 to 2022, the development of agricultural science at the Kirovohrad State (Regional) Agricultural Research Station was inextricably linked with the active scientific work of the economic unit. Over the entire period of its existence, the economic unit has gone through a difficult path of formation and development, leaving behind the most valuable knowledge and results of research on the problematic issues of agricultural development during the period of the socialist economy and its transformation to the market foundations of private property and new land relations. The new generation of scientists worthily continues the direction of economic research of the agrarian sector, aimed at significantly increasing its efficiency on the basis of scientific, technical and innovative activities, as well as achieving the goals of the modern concept of sustainable development.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, economic research has been carried out under 5 important state scientific programs. Modern scientific achievements and research results include more than 500 publications on economic topics in various areas, a large part of which is available on the Internet today for perusal. Practical results of scientific research in the direction of agrarian economy are used in the development of recommendations and proposals for regional programs of agroindustrial production in the conditions of Kirovohrad region and the Steppe zone.

The periodization of the main historical stages of the formation of the research case and scientific research on issues of agrarian economy is determined. The main historical stages and aspects of the development of research on agricultural economics in the Kirovohrad region included 4 important periods (initial exploratory, experimental, reviving and modern) and are closely related to the active activities of the economic division of the Kirovohrad State Agricultural Research Station, which now bears the name of the Institute of Agriculture of the Steppe NAAS. For more than 65 years of its existence, the economic unit has gone through a difficult path of formation and development, leaving behind the most valuable knowledge and results of research on problematic issues of agricultural development in the period of the socialist economy and its transformation to the market foundations of private property and new land relations. The scientific achievements and research results of the team of scientists amount to more than 500 publications on economic topics in various areas, a large part of which is available on the Internet today for perusal. The results of economic research found practical use in the farms of the Kirovohrad region, in the development of regional programs for the development of the agricultural industry, as well as in scientific research in other areas of agricultural science.
