The purpose of the study is to highlight the life path and creative contribution Julius Lantskyi. He is one of the founders of the field of domestic horticulture, scientist of fruit and ornamental horticulture, the main gardener and manager of the Tsaritsyn Garden, teacher of botany and horticulture, dean of the department of the Uman School of Agriculture and Horticulture.

The main stages of his biography are reproduced and his professional activity is considered using historical, biographical and source analysis methods.

Emphasis is placed on the significant results of the scientist's research work. It is emphasized that Julius Lantskyi attached great importance to the study of fruit trees and their wild relatives, the biology of flowering and fruiting of fruit crops. Scientists have conducted a number of expeditionary surveys on the collection and fixation of cultivated and wild fruit plants in experimental areas of the nursery. In addition, Julius Lantskyi collected a dendrological herbarium, which included many different rare plants interesting and valuable from a botanical and decorative point of view.

His activities of Julius Lantskyi as an outstanding gardener, a teacher of botany and horticulture, an organizer of agricultural research in Ukraine, an active member of the Society of Gardening Enthusiasts, a member of the Uman City Public Administration (deputy), a member of the Uman District Committee, and a popularizer of horticultural science are highlighted.

It is proved that Julius Lantskyi made a great contribution to the development of horticulture, biology, agricultural science, education, initiated new scientific directions in botany, herbology. He left a significant mark in the development of agricultural research in the country. The study of the scientific heritage of Julius Lantskyi is a valuable reference point for researching the processes of the formation of the horticultural industry in Ukraine in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
