The article outlines the main trends in the functioning of Ukrainian local history societies in the 20s and early 30s of the 20th century on the example of some of them. In particular, the object of the analysis was the Berdyansk, Bilotserkiv, Vinnytsia Local History Societies, Zinoviev District Scientific Local History Society, Kamianets-Podilskyi District Committee of Local History, Konotop District Local History Society, Korosten Bureau of Local History in Zhytomyr Oblast, Oster Scientific Society of Local History, and Sosnytsk Scientific and research society in Chernihiv Region, etc. Attention was drawn to the composition, structure, publishing activity and directions of work of the mentioned centers. The contribution of the Korosten Bureau of local history and its museum to the development of natural history issues and the scientific support of sectoral agricultural research was noted. The transformational processes in the local history societies’ activities under the influence of socio-political and ideological conditions, in particular, the shift of the research focus from historical to the so-called production local history, whose theorist and ideologist was the geographer and economist K. V. Dubnyak, were followed until the end of the 1920s.
