The article is devoted to the study of the life path of Yevhen Zverozomb-Zubovskyi, corresponding member of the Ukrainian SSR, namely the period of formation of his scientific interests and formation as a personality. By means of archival and source analysis, an attempt is made to recreate the initial stage of the scientist's activity – one of the organisers of entomological science in Ukraine in the early twentieth century. The article details biographical information, in particular, it is noted that E. V. Zverozomb-Zubovsky was educated at St. Volodymyr's University at the Natural Sciences Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (1909–1911). The leader and mentor in the endeavours of the future scientist was a lecturer at the University, private associate professor of zoology V. P. Pospelov, who is considered one of the founders of practical entomology in the early twentieth century. In 1904, on the initiative of V. P. Pospelov and with the support of the South Russian Society for the Promotion of Agriculture and Rural Industry, the first entomological station in the former empire was opened in Kyiv. After completing his studies at this institution, E. V. Zverozomb-Zubovsky began his scientific career, and in 1913 he was appointed a senior instructor in pest control at the Department of Agriculture. In 1915, he became a member and one of the organisers of the All–Russian Society of Applied Entomology in 1915. The results of his first research appear in 1911 and deal with the issues of controlling gophers with the help of sulphur dioxide and other measures.
