Summary

Among the notable achievements of the 19th century one of the important places belongs to construction mechanics. The founder of the theory of stability of building elements is F. S. Yasinskyi. Scientific works of F. S. Yasinskyi received wide recognition in scientific circles, both in the Russian Empire and abroad. His theoretical studies were of great importance for the science of structural stability and even more important for construction practice. First of all, it should be noted the excellent study of F. S. Yasinskyi on the legitimate application of the approximate differential equation of longitudinal bending. In addition to the main monographs of F. S. Yasinskyi wrote a number of small articles on the longitudinal bending of structural elements. The value of these works is so important that F. S. Yasinskyi can be recognized as the first researcher who made a huge contribution to the development of practical methods of calculating building structures for stability.

As an active member of the «Society of South-Western Railways» F. S. Yasinskyi in 1897, became a member of the commission for the development of a standard metric assortment of professional iron. He was also on the commission for the development of standards for the acceptance and testing of building materials in 1898, and also on the commission on the safety of the use of strong countersteam for braking trains on descents. In general, under the leadership of the energetic Felix Stanislavovych, the activity of the technical department of the Society has significantly revived. On his initiative, systematic scientific and technical discussions on various engineering issues were organized.

F. S. Yasynskyi is the founder of the Scientific School of Construction Mechanics. His works on the theory of elasticity (the theory of stability of compressed rods), design and reconstruction of railway structures have not lost their relevance even today.
