The article deals with the role of museum practice in the preservation and presentation of intangible cultural heritage. The intangible cultural heritage is a complex phenomenon that is related to both the phenomenon of traditional culture, the processes of imitation and transmission of socially and culturally significant information, and to the contemporary cultural and political discourse, which plays a huge role in regulating processes in the field of culture.

The forms and methods of preserving the intangible cultural heritage through the prism of museology are considered. The organisation of a «living museum» is not limited to exhibiting only material manifestations of intangible cultural heritage, but also actively promotes work with young people through master classes and other forms of knowledge transfer from master carriers. One of the most popular forms of museum pedagogical work related to the preservation and presentation of intangible cultural heritage is the activity of various clubs, involvement of folk groups in museum activities, organisation of folk music festivals and similar events. Another important trend is the use of theatre as an element of museum communication. Museums are also increasingly using various forms of historical reconstructions, demonstrations of handicraft production, various holidays, which are used both in building museums (children's and family holidays) and in open-air museums and eco-museums, as well as the use of games in museum and pedagogical activities.

As the analysis of the use of forms and methods shows, the museum has broader and more effective mechanisms for preserving intangible cultural heritage.
