The purpose of the article is to analyze the research and practical activities of the Ukrainian soil scientist, agroforestry improver, Professor Oleksandr Skorodumov.

It was found that the Kharkiv period of activity of O. S. Skorodumov is associated with the functioning of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Agroforestry and Forestry founded in 1930 (now the H. M. Vysotskyi Ukrainian Research Institute of Forestry and Agroforestry). The scientific interests of the scientist, first of all, focused on the study of the problem of field protection afforestation, combating soil erosion, improving the fertility of sloping lands, as well as developing schemes for the effective placement of anti-erosion forest plantations. The scientist's scientific and methodical approaches to minimizing the risk of erosion have been revealed. The experience of development and implementation of anti-erosion measures is summarized. It was noted that the special attention of professor O. S. Skorodumov devoted herself to the development of agroforestry methods of combating soil erosion. Low intelligence has established the high efficiency of forest plantations and crops of perennial grasses in the fight against wash-off and erosion. The priority and practical significance of his fundamental and applied research for the further evolution of the direction of agroforestry improvement is substantiated. O. S. Skorodumov's carried out the management and was the executor of scientific research topics: «Study of the operation of various phytomelioration anti-erosion structures and the development of principles of their calculation», «Fighting with soil washing and erosion», «Study of the influence of forest strips on increasing the yield of agricultural crops» and others.
