The article updates the cooperative teachings of M. P. Ballin, a well-known cooperator, socialist, active organizer and participant of the cooperative movement of the 19th – early 20th centuries, public figure, theoretician and practitioner of cooperation.

It is proved that the socio-political teaching of S. Fourier became an important element of the theory and practice of M. P. Ballin's cooperative socialism, in which cooperation is the center of a new management of a fair society. Many cooperator experiments carried out in Ukraine on the organization of cooperative societies, cooperative training and education of people, cultural and educational events, propaganda campaigns were inhibited in every possible way or were prohibited by the authorities and qualified as anti-state activities. The non-scientific concept of M. P. Ballin and his like-minded people to reform the private property society and build a new economic order by peaceful methods proved to be untenable and naturally suffered a complete collapse.
