Within the framework of scientific research work devoted to the reproduction of the complete scientific biography of the outstanding Ukrainian astronomer, planetologist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR M. P. Barabashov, on the basis of archival retro-informational resources, first introduced into scientific circulation, the history of generations of the Barabashev (Barabashov) family, the origin and kinship of members of this family has been studied. The purpose of the article is to summarize the results of the historical and genealogical study of the Barabashev family, whose main task is the reconstruction of the ascending mixed genealogy of academician M. P. Barabashov.

The methodology of this scientific research is based on the principles of historicism, objectivity, systematic and comprehensive analysis of the problem. General and historical methods of scientific research (retrospective, prosopographic, source-scientific analysis) are applied in order to solve problematic tasks; their use has contributed to obtaining new results in the disclosure of the chosen topic. The source base of the research was composed of documents from the largest collections of personal origin of academician M. P. Barashov from a number of domestic archival (central, regional and departmental) museum and library institutions.

In order to create a genealogical dossier, an information database was created (genealogical cards were compiled for each member of the genus), which allowed studying the Barabashev (Barabashov) family lineage, to compose a family tree (five generations) and clearly define all the family members. It was established that the influence of family ambiance and liberal style of parental education formed the worldview of M. P. Barabashov, basic principles of life and values, the stereotype of behavior that further affected the development of the personality of a future famous scientist.
