Deep socio-economic transformations in the countryside, which took place in Ukraine at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries, were aimed at transforming property relations and forms of management, at reforming agricultural enterprises and adapting new organizational and legal forms to market conditions of management. Considerable attention is drawn to the works of M. F. Solovyov, who entered the history of Ukrainian agrarian economic thought as an organizer and defender of wholesale agricultural production. It should be noted that since the 2010s, the identity of M. F. Solovyov has been forgotten. The purpose of the article is to revive the name of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist M. F. Solovyov, forgotten by the current generation of economists, to analyze his scientific legacy in the context of reforms in the agricultural sector of the Ukrainian economy. The scientific views of M. F. Solovyov make it possible to assess the nature and dynamics of economic processes that took place in the countryside during the period of profound socio-economic transformations. They should become the basis of rethinking the strategy of the agrarian policy of Ukraine, which was based on the concept of destruction. The relevance of this topic lies in the fact that many domestic economists are now coming to understand the fallacy of implementing the reforms of the 1990s, which caused the destruction of wholesale production, the destruction of entire branches of the agrarian sector of the economy, and the impoverishment of peasants. Unfortunately, only a few of the Ukrainian economists managed to solve this problem, among them M. F. Solovyov should be put in the first place.
