| Summary |

The article analyzes the peculiarities of the development of meadow farming in Ukraine, which was implemented, in particular, by scientists of the laboratory of the Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences (1944–1973) and scientists of the Institute of Fodder and Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Podillia (1973–2024). On the basis of historical and scientific analysis and the application of personalized and critical approaches, the persistence and continuity in the development of agrarian research in the field of meadow farming has been clarified. We note that the field of meadow farming developed thanks to a number of outstanding Ukrainian scientists, whose research and scientific developments filled the treasury of knowledge of agrarian science. The scientific achievements of scientists M. V. Kuksin, A. V. Bogovin, P. S. Makarenko, A. O. Babich and others, who had an impact on the development of domestic agricultural science in the second half of the 20th century, were considered: they ensured the effective functioning of cultural pastures and meadows; developed the technology of creating fodder lands on slopes, floodplains and drained meadows; applied the rational use of natural hayfields and pastures as one of the main measures to ensure the annual sufficient need for high-quality fodder. Based on the analysis of the works of scientists, it has been proven that the research institutions and laboratories of meadow cultivation have carried out significant research on the development of technologies for the creation of highly productive sown polyoxygenous grass stands, the effective use of the potential of leguminous grasses in meadow cultivation as a source of biological nitrogen and a factor for increasing the protein and energy content of fodder. Considering the importance of the problem, it is appropriate to carry out a historical excursion on the development of meadow farming with the involvement of relevant sources, scientific ideas and the concept of the development of fodder production for the future.
