The activities of the leading special domestic libraries and their importance in supporting scientific research to meet the needs of the relevant industries and to serve the professional category of users are highlighted. The main typological features characteristic to special libraries, which they follow in their activities, are given. Their scientific and research activity was analyzed and it was found that it is aimed, first of all, at monitoring information needs in the process of scientific research, the formation of resources and their use, the improvement of library and information technologies and forms of user service, the formation of a branch bibliography through the compilation and publication of bibliographic indexes, participation in scientific conferences, seminars, presentations, development of regulatory documents, methodological manuals; scientific publications, etc. On the example of the NSAL of the NAAS, it is shown that scientific research is a priority direction, which is implemented through the implementation of fundamental and applied scientific research, scientific projects on the issues of branch librarianship, bibliography, information activities, historiographic ways of development of domestic agricultural research; accumulation and preservation of book funds; formation of national industry information content and integration into the global information space; publishing activity; increasing the level of scientific content of the developed industry information products; professional communication support; monitoring, analysis and integration of research results into the global scientific space; expansion of social communications; international cooperation, etc. It was revealed that among the main tasks of special libraries is the creation of materialized results of information activities (information products), which are considered as a strategic resource for the development of Ukraine and serve as information support during scientific research. The abstract journal «Agro-Industrial Complex of Ukraine», the industry electronic resource «UkrAgroteka», and the electronic scientific agricultural library are presented at the NSAL of the NAAS. The possibilities of information and communication technologies, which ensure the creation of an integrated unity – resources, products, services to meet the needs of users due to an increase in the share of information and analytical products and services, are shown. The work of the library as a center for methodical support and coordination of works related to the formation of bibliometric profiles of agrarian scientists and the provision of a set of services aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the specialized scientific community and the positioning of agricultural science in the international scientific and educational space is highlighted. It has been proven that the scientific and research work of special libraries is multifaceted, relevant and promising, since Ukraine, in which the agricultural sector is the leading segment of the economy, has determined the European path of its further development, therefore it is necessary to search for the main generating lever of innovative transformations, and it is impossible to achieve this without proper library and information support of the scientific support of the branches. Further directions for expanding the possibilities of information support for scientific research in the NSAL of the NAAS are outlined.
