The aim of the present paper is a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis of reports and announcements that were delivered at meetings of the club «Local Historian», which operates on the basе of the T. H. Shevchenko «Ukrainika» Department of the V. H. Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library and were concerned events of World War II. The period of the club’s operation from 1978 to 2019 was studied. During this time, more than 500 of club’s meetings have taken place. A complex of special-historical methods (historical-genetic, historical-typological, historical-comparative, historical-systemic) and interdisciplinary (quantitative) methods was used. The source base of the research includes unpublished (archive) and published materials. In particular, the author analyzed the collection of the documents of the club «Local Historian» that are stored in the funds of the T. H. Shevchenko «Ukrainika» Department of the V. H. Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library, biographical indexes «One Hundred Local History Readings (Chronicle and Content)» (Kharkiv, 1988–2018), and publications in Kharkiv newspapers.

It was found out that the proportion of speeches about the events and figures of World War II in the overall structure of the club’s meetings was 4% on average. A list of thematic areas presented at club meetings within the framework of the researched issues was determined. In particular, it was shown that the most widespread were reports on the course of combat operations to defend and liberate Kharkiv from the Nazis, the participation of Kharkiv residents in the Resistance Movement, as well as biographical announcements. The social and professional affiliation of the speakers was investigated, among whom were representatives of both the humanitarian and natural and technical spheres, as well as direct participants and witnesses of World War II and members of their families. The forms of information presentation used in the club’s activity, including reports with subsequent discussion, presentations of new books, viewing of documentaries, etc., were considered. It was demonstrated that socially significant and previously unknown or little-known information was presented and discussed at the club meetings.
