The aim of the article is to analyze the research space, particularly the results achieved within it, of the well-known Ukrainian public and political figure Mykyta Shapoval during his period of emigration. The article explores the directions of his research activities shaped by new historical conditions.

It has been established that M. Shapoval period of emigration in the Czechoslovak Republic (from autumn 1921 to 1932) enabled him not only to understand and analyze the factual course of the Ukrainian national liberation struggle of 1917–1921. During the early stages of his emigration, he deeply rethought and analyzed the reasons for their failure. The conclusions he drew allowed him to translate these insights into practical activities. A key moment in transitioning to action was the establishment of the Ukrainian Public Committee (1921). Through M. Shapoval efforts as the head of this committee, institutions such as the Ukrainian Economic Academy in Poděbrady (1922), the Ukrainian Higher Pedagogical Institute named after M. Drahomanov in Prague (1923), and the Ukrainian Sociological Institute in Prague (1924), also known as the Ukrainian Institute of Social Studies, were founded, with M. Shapoval becoming its director, among other accomplishments. In these social-educational institutions, he organized and conducted research in sociology, publishing the results in articles. A significant portion of these works has been preserved in manuscript form.

The most pronounced development of M. Shapoval’s research space is evident in his work on specific issues in sociology, logic, psychology, political science, and political history, reflecting his post-factum understanding, analysis, and interpretation of his existential environment and reality. This led to the accumulation of results preserved in narrative sources and Ukrainian archives. It is known that M. Shapoval prepared approximately 400 scholarly and journalistic works, including 36 books and brochures, 3 poetry collections, 340 articles, notes, and reviews, as well as lectures on sociology, socialism, psychology, logic, the national question, ethnography, Ukrainian history, and political economy.
