The article is devoted to the analysis of coverage on the pages of the «Kraêznavstvo» scientific journal of the life path, scientific and research achievements and public work of famous local historians of Ukraine. It is noted that the modern period of development of Ukrainian historical science is marked by increased interest in the study of the role of the individual in history. Historical-biographical and prosopographical studies, which provide an opportunity to reconstruct multifaceted aspects of a person's life and activities, have noticeably revived.

On the pages of the «Kraêznavstvo» journal, the biographies of outstanding figures of local historians are considered as a kind of historical portraits of individuals with high civic-patriotic and moral qualities, which serve as a model for young researchers of regional history and the involvement of broad segments of the population in regional history.

It is stated that historical portraits of local historians are of great importance not only as a part of the history of the Ukrainian local history movement but also as a valuable source of information about people and the conditions in which they have made and continue to make their personal contributions to the development of local history in Ukraine.

It is concluded that the coverage of the history of the local history movement in Ukraine through the prism of the personalities of famous local historians occupies a prominent place in the thematic structure of the journal. It is found that the practice of publishing materials about prominent figures of Ukrainian local history on the pages of the journal was started after the resumption of journal publication with the declaration of Ukraine's independence. It is stated that almost all categories of figures in the local history movement – from dedicated amateur researchers to renowned scholars – have become the subjects of journal publications about their life paths and contributions to the study of Ukraine's regional history and the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people.

Historical and documentary essays and scientific articles of a prosopographic direction are the most common genre of submission of materials about prominent local historians on the pages of the journal.
