The purpose of this article is to explore the life and scientific contributions of the prominent Ukrainian scholar, Oleksiy Andriiovych Buhutskyi, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine. He is a well-known figure not only among national scientists but also internationally, as a distinguished agrarian economist and a scholar in the fields of agricultural statistics and the economics of agricultural labor. The factors that shaped his scientific worldview as an agrarian scientist are identified.

Using biographical, historical, and source analysis methods, the main stages of his intellectual biography are highlighted and his professional work is examined.

It is established that O. A. Buhutskyi's career at the Institute of Agrarian Economics spanned from an aspirant (postgraduate student) to the head of a department, a position he held continuously for approximately 40 years. It is proven that over his 45-year scientific career, he achieved significant success with fundamental and applied research that laid the foundation for modern agrarian and economic statistical studies.

Based on a scientific analysis of O. A. Buhutskyi's creative legacy, the scholar's views on issues of labor motivation, workforce quality, the level of its self-realization, and the use of labor motivation in agriculture are revealed. The article also addresses the dependence of the agricultural sector on the demographic situation in Ukrainian villages. Under his scientific guidance and with his direct participation, valuable research was conducted to improve methods for the quantitative assessment of the economic activities of collective farms (kolkhozes) and state farms (sovkhozes). It was determined that his research led to the proposal of a system of indicators and techniques for determining the economic efficiency of agricultural production using statistical and mathematical methods. O. A. Buhutskyi's scientific research is still used today in the economic activities of his followers.
