The development of the theory of document science involves highlighting the terminological component, based on the systematization of the main approaches to the interpretation of concepts in the scientific literature, identifying the interdisciplinary influence on the formation of the content of concepts, and outlining the trends of further evolution of the category in the conditions of digital transformation of the information environment. The aim of the article is to analyze the content of the concept of documentary and information resource in scientific discourse, its formation and content transformations in the context of the development of related branches of science, to clarify the essence of this concept as a basic category of information science.

The focus is on the modern interpretation of the concept of documentary and information resource in the context of the development of the information society and the formation of new scientific approaches. It is emphasized that in the conditions of digitalization the content of the concept acquires a new meaning, covering traditional and electronic, digital, multimedia, integrated forms of documents. It is emphasized that the definition requires unity and agreement of content in interpretation. It is noted that the fixation of information on a material medium is a key condition for its acquisition of documentary status, which determines the interdependence of the concepts of information and document. It is noted that different scientific schools interpret the documentary and information resource through the prism of related disciplines – information science, social communications, archival science and library science, which determines terminological variability. The content of the concept is interpreted as a set of documents, and as a component of an information system or an integrated information potential of documented knowledge. The variety of approaches indicates the complex interdisciplinary nature of the concept, which combines theoretical and applied aspects of information activity. The need for further scientific understanding and formation of terminology and content transformations of the category of documentary and information resource is highlighted, which will contribute to the deepening of the theory of document science and the improvement of the categorical apparatus of modern information science.
