The purpose of the article is to highlight the process of forming M. Lisovyi's scientific interests through the prism of his biographical path, early scientific research, and establishment as a scientist, which allows not only to supplement the personalized history of Ukrainian agrarian science but also to actualize the significance of his ideas in the modern conditions of sustainable agriculture development. The methodological basis of the study is a combination of general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, classification) with special historical approaches, in particular, problem-chronological and comparative. The leading role is given to the biographical method, which was used to reconstruct the scientific achievements of scholars whose contribution was decisive in the development of agricultural science. The application of appropriate methodological approaches and principles of historical analysis ensured a comprehensive and systematic disclosure of the problem under study. It has been established that the formation of the scientific interests of Academician M. Lisovyi took place against the backdrop of the dynamic development of domestic agricultural science in the second half of the 20th century and in conditions of close integration of scientific research with the educational sphere. Particular attention is paid to the period of his professional growth at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (UAA), where, under the influence of Professor V. Peresypkin, the key areas of his scientific interests in the field of phytopathology and plant protection were formed. Based on biographical sources and memoirs of contemporaries, the scientific research and practical activities that determined the scientist's further scientific trajectory are analyzed. It has been established that the early stage of M. Lisovyi's scientific biography became the basis for his further fundamental research and significant contribution to the development of domestic plant protection science.
