Summary

The aim of this study is to conduct a historical and scientific analysis of the development of the concept of the agrosphere in Ukraine in the late 20th century through the lens of the scientific ideas of the eminent geneticist and plant breeder O. Sozinov. The methodological basis of the study consisted of historical-chronological, comparative-historical, and historical-biographical methods, retrospective analysis, and an interdisciplinary approach, which ensured a comprehensive reconstruction of the process of forming the concept of the agrosphere in Ukraine at the end of the 20th century and made it possible to determine its significance as a theoretical foundation for the transition to a model of sustainable development of the agricultural sector. It has been established that the development of the concept of the agrosphere in Ukraine at the end of the 20th century took place at the intersection of several scientific disciplines–genetics, plant breeding, soil science, ecology, and the economics of natural resource use. It has been determined that during the post-Soviet period, there was not so much a reduction in anthropogenic pressure on the agrosphere as a qualitative transformation of that pressure. Despite a certain easing of technogenic pressure in certain sectors, the contradiction between intensive agricultural activity and the natural environment persisted and even intensified. In this context, the ideas of O. Sozinov, aimed at justifying a systematic, ecologically balanced approach to the development of the agrosphere, have acquired particular scientific significance. It has been demonstrated that the concept of the agrosphere, as interpreted by the scholar, reflects the profound evolution of scientific understandings regarding the interaction between humans and the biosphere and provides a theoretical foundation for the transition to sustainable models of agricultural production. It has been determined that the key components of this concept are the restoration and maintenance of soil fertility, adherence to scientifically sound crop rotations, the rational use of natural resources, the preservation of biodiversity, and the integration of ecological principles into the agricultural production system. It is substantiated that O. Sozinov’s scientific legacy has not only historical and scientific but also significant practical value. His conceptual approaches remain relevant in the context of contemporary global environmental challenges, particularly soil degradation, climate change, and the depletion of natural resources.
