The purpose of the article is to reproduce the main life milestones, the pedagogical and advisory activities of the talented Ukrainian scientist in the field of animal husbandry, Professor I. S. Sheremetynskyi. Research methods are general scientific (analysis, synthesis, classification), special historical (problematic-chronological, comparative-historical), biographical and source studies. It is proven that the scientist contributed to the formalization of animal husbandry as a disciplinary science, heading the cabinet of special cattle breeding at the Kamianets-Podilskyi Agricultural Institute. It is substantiated that the most fruitful period of his activities covers the years in emigration, connected with the headship of the Chairs of General and Special Animal Breeding of the Ukrainian Academy of Economics and the Ukrainian Technical and Economic Institute (Podebrady, Czechoslovakia). The creative achievements of I. S. Sheremetynskyi for the organization of industry research, which contributed to the establishment of the Animal Breeding Department of the Katerynoslav Regional Agricultural Research Station – one of the first specialized research institutions in the Ukrainian lands. It was established that the scientific interests of I. S. Sheremetynskyi, first of all, focused on the study of the problem of the formation of economically useful traits of agricultural animals in connection with their constitutional type, as well as the development of effective feed production technologies. The scientist's advisory activities as an active member of many industry associations, his contribution to the development of agricultural terminology is highlighted.
