The scientific heritage of the prominent Ukrainian scientist in the field of theoretical programming, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine K. L. Yushchenko is investigated and her personal contribution to the development of theoretical programming in Ukraine is substantiated. The stages of K. L. Yushchenko's creation of the addressable language, the world's first “high-level” programming language, are investigated. It is proven that K. L. Yushchenko began to work on this research in 1952 at the Kyiv Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The prerequisites that gave rise to the development of theoretical programming in Ukraine in the late 1940s and early 1950s are considered. The article highlights the initial period of the scientist's scholarly activity and the formation of her scientific vision against the background of the development of the foundations of information technology at that time. Having devoted her whole life to science, K. L. Yushchenko made a significant contribution to the training of programmers, founding a series of textbooks and preparing a number of doctors and candidates in mathematical sciences. It is shown that the active organizational and pedagogical activities of the scientist contributed to the popularization of the science of cybernetics. The creative heritage of the scientist facilitated the intensive development of theoretical programming in Ukraine and around the world and solved urgent practical problems both in the historical period when K. L. Yushchenko lived and worked and in modern research on theoretical programming problems.
