The purpose of the article is to provide a comprehensive coverage of the origin and development of agricultural machinery testing in Ukraine.

The study used general scientific (analysis, synthesis, classification), historical (historical-comparative and problematic-chronological) and source research methods. This made it possible to provide a reasoned presentation of the origins of agricultural machinery testing in Ukraine.

It has been established that the testing of agricultural machinery and implements in Ukraine originated in 1874 at the Experimental Station for Testing Agricultural Machinery and Implements at the Higher School of Agriculture in Dubliany. The founder of the station was a famous scientist, Professor Tomasz Rylski.

An increase in the number of agricultural machines in the Kharkiv region led to the organization of the Agricultural Machinery and Implements Testing Station at the Kharkiv Institute of Technology in 1896, with Professor G. O. Latyshev appointed as its head.

Testing of agricultural machinery and implements was established at the Testing Station of Agricultural Machinery and Implements at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute of Alexander II, which was organized in 1900 by Professor K.G. Shindler, a well-known scientist in the field of agricultural mechanics. The station played an important role in scientific research for the needs of the government, which was conducted by the Research Department of Agricultural Mechanics, headed by Professor P. F. Vovk of the Kyiv Agricultural Institute.

The Adzham Agricultural Experimental Station was established in 1911 as an agronomic station, with the agricultural machinery testing department headed by V. I. Nagibin. It is proved that further development of agricultural machinery testing at a higher level took place at the Yakymivka branch of the Bureau of Agricultural Mechanics, opened in 1912. The scientific and material base of the Yakymivka branch was one of the best in Europe. Based on the results of the research, detailed reports were compiled with recommendations for agricultural machinery factories to improve individual components and machines as a whole.
