The article examines the situation of women educators at Nizhyn Higher Education Institution during the period of late Stalinism and Khrushchev’s liberalization (1943-1964). Based on archival sources and recent historiography, the study analyzes the formation patterns of the female student contingent, including their socio-demographic and ethno-geographical characteristics. Special attention is paid to examining the motivations of female applicants in choosing the teaching profession, their educational strategies, and adaptation to the learning process in post-war conditions. The article reveals the specifics of the centralized system of graduate placement and its role in staffing educational institutions with pedagogical personnel. The geography of young female specialists’ employment, peculiarities of their professional adaptation, and career growth are analyzed. The challenges faced by graduates during their mandatory work placement are highlighted.

The study investigates the process of faculty recruitment through the engagement of female specialists from various USSR regions as an ideological segment of the nationwide policy of Russification and cultural assimilation. The mechanisms of personnel policy, selection criteria for female teachers, and requirements for their political reliability are outlined. The professional and social activities of women faculty members are characterized, including their contribution to the development of the educational process and scientific research under strict political and ideological control. Based on biographical data, the life trajectories of the most prominent female faculty members are examined, including their strategies for professional self-realization and interaction with power structures.

The research establishes that the experience of women educators at Nizhyn Mykola Gogol Pedagogical Institute reflected the complex combination of professional self-realization and ideological restrictions on Ukrainian women, characteristic of the Soviet higher education system. The research results provide better understanding of the gender aspects of Soviet higher education functioning and the mechanisms of forming national intellectual cadres under a totalitarian regime.
