The article presents a review of the periodical publications from the «Zolotyі Burіak» collection held by the National Scientific Agricultural Library of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, which serve as an important source for historical research in the field of sugar beet cultivation.

The purpose of the article is to conduct a source-study analysis of foreign periodicals, to identify the distinctive features of their content, and to determine their thematic scope.

The study employs a systematic approach that presupposes the examination of the object in its entirety and incorporates a set of fundamental scholarly principles, namely historicism and objectivity, while making use of a combination of general scientific and specialized research methods. Content analysis and historical-archival analysis are applied to establish the context of the publications, whereas comparative and statistical methods are used to assess both the uniqueness of the collection and the dynamics of its content.

The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time, foreign periodical publications from the newly established collection preserved in the holdings of the NSAL NAAS have been examined. An analytical survey of journals has been carried out, and the typological and thematic orientations of the periodicals (1863–1942) have been defined, reflecting the developmental trends of global scholarship on the production and processing of cane and beet sugar as well as on the sugar industry during complex historical periods. The study also establishes the linguistic diversity of the collection, with German, French, and English being predominant. The thematic spectrum primarily encompasses issues of technology, chemistry, and agriculture, thereby highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of research in the sugar industry. From a geographical perspective, the majority of the periodicals were published in leading scientific and industrial centers of Europe and America, particularly in Berlin, Paris, London, and New York.
