The aim of the study is to analyze the formation, activities, and liquidation of the Ukrainian Committee of Local Historians as a key institutional center of the local history movement in Ukraine in the 1920s–1930s under conditions of changing state policy. The methodological framework of the research is based on historical-comparative, problem-chronological, institutional, and systemic approaches, which made it possible to examine the stages of development of the local history movement, its organizational structure, and the influence of political factors. It has been established that the creation of the Ukrainian Committee of Local Historians was a response to the need to coordinate an extensive network of local history units and ensured their institutionalization. It has been demonstrated that in 1925–1929 the Committee functioned as a methodological, organizational, and scientific center, contributing to the formation of unified approaches to regional historical research and the development of local history societies. It has been determined that the development of the local history movement was directly dependent on the policy of Ukrainization, which provided favorable conditions for its expansion. It has been substantiated that from the late 1920s the activities of the Committee gradually declined due to the strengthening of ideological control, changes in research priorities, and increasing centralization of governance. It has been revealed that the key factors behind the liquidation of the local history movement included repression of scholars, administrative reforms, financial crisis, and the consequences of the Holodomor of 1932–1933. It has been proven that in the 1930s local history lost its autonomy and was transformed into an instrument of state ideology, which led to the destruction of its institutional structure and scientific potential. The practical significance of the research results lies in their applicability for restoring the historical memory of the repressed local history movement, advancing further studies in the history of science, and informing contemporary policies on cultural heritage preservation.
